There's a school of thought that says it's because the average depth of the continental crustal shear zone roughly correlates with the average rate of erosion multiplied by the age of the Archaean. In other words, the Archean cratons have been exposed to just the right amount of erosion such that their old crustal shear zones where it's thought a lot of mineralization occurs, are exposed at or near the surface today.
