MEE have a long way to go. Firstly they will need to conduct a trial burn to determine if the hydrogeological conditions of the site will sustain a UCG burn without contamination of the groundwater. If that fails, kiss your UCG project goodbye. The trial will take a considerable amount of time; don’t expect it to be over in a week or a month. Although there have been UCG trials in Australia (Chinchilla), environmental clearance for commercialisation has not been given. LNC is currently working on this but nothing is certain. Remember Shale Oil. That was an economical process that was kyboshed because of environmental concerns.
If the trial burn is successful they will then need to construct the UCG field. The capital and work required is not insignificant. Do you know how MEE intends to fund that? You may want to find out.
