    yes, thx Masterfoods, good article.
like so many stories in media these days, the article covers so many separate issues, and bundles them all together into the one issue or problem.

I must admit, I have never considered the issue, as to whether the Govt or Ministers, actually made the decision to suspend the drilling licence, even though they knew it was illegal.
I think that has all sorts of consequences.
    Compensation issues for one!.
IF (big IF) the Govt was called on by the court to pay compo to MEL because it unlawfully suspended drilling, I would think that compo awarded by a court would be much higher if the Court determined that the Govt KNEW the decision to suspend was illegal before it acted to suspend - than if the Govt only found out after the Court decision. Because it bring up issues like "intent", "recklessness", "culpability" etc.
Gosh - who would want to invest in NSW if the Govt could/would deliberately cancel an prior approval, when it knows that the decision to cancel was unlawful???

And that would explain just why NSW Govt could not find anyone to give evidence of what occurred, and the reasoning and process it went through to arrive at the decision to suspend!

No one was willing to get in the Box, and be interrogated as to what actually was said, and what occurred.

Also, what merit behind article above, that Leg Assembly might conduct an inquiry?
If Libs are minority, then Labor as majority could demand inquiry.
So why would Labor do that when Labor's stated policy at election, and now, is to ban CSG development. Whilst an inquiry into OCSG decision might embarrass Libs, wouldn't it be helping MEL and other CSG explorers??? ie Labor would be helping the enemy?

I still think NSW Govt will do a deal with MEL - it will provide compo for suspension, and buyback NR licences. It simply will not want a huge confrontation, which would only be made worse by the fact that it stuffed up with the suspension.

I think NSW Govt is counting on Gas coming from NT and Qld and Bass Strait and Qld. It seems to be energetically supporting the NT pipeline. Anyway, just imho.

When the article talks about the Diggers saying that "when your in a big hole, stop digging", the article forgets one big difference between the Diggers situation and that of NSW Govt - political expediency!

    cheers
