I agree in part. they are completely different in that Berkshire is an insurance company and Magellan is a funds management business. two completely different businesses they do have one thing in common though lots of other people's money and the need to get the best return possible on that money. Both are fairly conservative. Berkshire being an insurance company uses policy holder funds and as result has to be fairly conservative in case of redemptions due to natural disasters etc companies like QBE and IAG keep a lot of policy holder funds in bonds but Buffett puts most of their money in businesses, but conservative businesses. in fact he talks about businesses like bonds with coupons Hamish Douglas seems to have used a similar conservative investment style and applied it to funds management. when you look at his portfolios. they seem to be similar to Buffetts though magellan has GYG and Nestle, Pepsi and Berkshire has Coke.. forgotten what else. But takeaway type businesses Magellan has stocks like visa, master card so too does Berkshire Magellan has Microsoft, Facebook, google, amazon. berkshire has apple they both have similar styles of investing but use completely different vehicles for sure
