Poseidon is not joking. First the UG Geo for Windarra - now they are recruiting a Work Health Safety and Environment Manager to oversee all three sites, with initial focus on Windarra. This one is an initial 12 month contract, not 3 months, which should reassure the understandable doubters.
The last announcement tells us they are already assessing and negotiating the tenders for the mining and ore transport. We are now see the required supervisory positions being created.
I gotta say, despite the long wait and the slippage on previous announced timelines, it looks to me like .... Thunderbirds Are Go!

The Opportunity
As the inaugural Manager Health, Safety, Environment and Training appointment, this role is offered on an initial 12 month term. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, with the site General Managers being your primary customers, this role will be Perth based but will necessitate extensive site travel.
The role has been created to undertake an initial audit across the 3 sites followed by development and implementation of an appropriately standardised Safety Management System (including emergency response plans) and Environmental Management System in accordance with statutory requirements. Your initial focus will be at our Windarra Nickel project in the northern goldfields.
A pivotal focus of the position will be to influence and establish strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and mining contractors, in addition to developing an understanding of the technical and operational drivers to support business growth.
Your portfolio will also include training, risk and compliance management, site medic services, injury management and H&S training management.
The Person
The qualities we seek in you are:
• Tertiary qualification in OHS or Certificate IV in OHS plus significant relevant experience
• Certificate IV Trainer and Assessor is preferable
• A proven track record of H&S leadership and management in an underground mining environment
• Demonstrated experience in managing environmental issues in an environmentally sensitive landscape
• Previous experience in managing the training portfolio is preferred
• Thorough understanding of Health & Safety Standards, Legislation, H&S & Risk Management policies
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to interact with and influence stakeholders in the creation of a positive safety culture
• The ability to work in a small ‘hands on’ start up team whilst seamlessly transitioning to managing strategic risk and compliance issues
