I keep reading about people saying ‘4 billion tonne’ resource, and the new 1.5 billion tonnes from Muster Dam, which all sounds very impressive, however I’m wondering (and I’m no mining expert), should we be so focused on the overall size of the resource, or more so on the eDTR recovery rate, which sits at around 15% on average across the various tenements. How much high quality magnetite concentrate will they actually be able to extract from the overall resource, taking into consideration other impurities, mining challenges etc.
While having a massive resource is helpful in terms of longevity of mining operations, it seems to me that at the end of the day, their performance will be rated based on the amount of concentrate they ship each year, the quality of it and price achieved, and how low they can get their costs.
