At the same time, nothing wrong with strategies that maximise returns, if willing to take the risks.
Somebody who bought at the top and is a believer in the company could have sold on the way down and bought double or more the amount of shares now, than they had before. As well as have a nice capital loss to write off.
People are so quick to judge others for selling at a loss, but it can actually be a very good strategy in the right circumstances.
