Actually, anyone with half a brain would realise it would be a PR disaster for the Russians or the separatists to deliberately down a civilian airliner. On the other hand, it would be very convenient for the US and NATO.

Putin's popularity in Russia is over 80%, and has improved after these crazy sanctions were imposed. Western leaders would be green with envy.
