Almost immediately after the plane crash the Ukrainian officially released supposed conversation between Russian rebels claiming that this was evidence. US intelligence in the following days debunked these recordings as unreliable accounts. This alone leaves Ukraine holding a smoking gun but it's easier to vilify those in the east. I don't believe any of them, the evidence we have been presented is tainted from all angles.
