    Radar seeking doesn't mean it seeks radar emissions from the target aircraft The missile is launched and guided from ground based radar until it's onboard seeker identifies and tracks the target. Warhead has proximity fuses to any metal object which then detonates fragmentation warhead 10-20 m away.

    Most of the warhead fragments fire sideways, missile is designed track and then detonate side on to cause maximum damage.

    Missile fired ideally from in front of an aircraft so it doesn't have to chase the target and has more flight time to maneuvre
