Totally. Just reviewing the information we were given regarding the plane being in one of two corridors (North and South from last known ping).... well, if you don't know whether it went North or South then you could not possibly rule out the plane heading West (towards Diego Garcia)... The ping and the arc only relate to the last known 'location' of the plane, ie. satellites pick up pings within given arcs on the earths surface. It does not indicate AT ALL which 'direction' the plane was heading in. Misinformation.
