The engine pings didn't put the aircraft anywhere near Garcia, even though a few looney tunes like to spruik that.
They seem to have had the search area spot on from day 1, and the flap location ties in also with currents. Indications and all evidence points to the aircraft being manually ditched in the ocean, and remaining intact. Obviously the larger the target the more likely it will be found. I think they've only covered about a third of the intended area thus far.
