i believe that put credence mh 370 went down closer to africa and not to australia, considering possible facts:

fire suppression bottle found in the maldives shortly after the mh370 went down
locals from the Maldives island of Kudahuvadhoo claim they saw a low-flying jet on the morning MH370 disappeared

authorities and the main stream media seem to keen to reassert that mh370 went down near australia and are not keen to consider alternatives!
