No, doesn't seem plausible.
Did the Vietnamese ATC ever contact Malaysian ATC when they failed to see the MH370 aircraft in their airspace? I believe they got another aircraft to contact the pilot using emergency radio. I also believe their radar picked up the turnback.
So it's a question that needs to be answered and if they did contact Malaysian ATC what did the Malaysians do?
