To add my two cents,
MHM does not need to be competitive in pricing the way you expose it. Salt slag landfill is going to be phased out and will become unlawful: it is an unwelcome toxic waste.
What MHM needs to be is the most efficient alternative to landfilling among all the alternatives. And the competitor are not there or not very economical.
