Its was an attack, Mick Fanning got extremely lucky.

Shark would have seen an object it thought was worth taking a chuck out of (its what they do, they take an ambush chunk and then allow the victim to weaken, this is when they often leave humans as its not what they expected) now, when they take this chunk they roll their eyes completely, ball and all, into their head to protect them.

Now from what the cameras show, and from feedback from Fanning, the shark gets immediately stuck in the leg rope. Remembering that the shark is rendered itself completely blind, the shark spins the board, dunks Fanning underwater and eventually Fanning swims free once the leg rope snaps or is cut (I presume).

I cannot... for the life of me understand the wave of stupidity that has overcome the internet in regards to this event. It was 1 shark...Most photos show the tail and not the fin....and yes it was an attack (though unsuccessful).
