    This can happen when there is a very large email waiting for you, and it gets rejected as being too large to handle by the ISP.

    The queue of emails to be sent from the ISP to you does not get cleared until all emails are received ok by your email program.

    Try having a look at your email queue using TELNET.


    In windows, run TELNET mail.bigpond.com 110
    (substitute your email server address as appropriate.

    Make sure LOCAL ECHO is on in TELNET.

    When you get the OK back from the server, enter the following:

    USER XXXXXXXX
    PASS PPPPPPPP

    where XXXXXXX and PPPPPP are your username and password.

    then LIST to show all emails in order by size,

    TOP 3,5 to show the first 5 lines of email 3

    QUIT to exit

    DEL 3 to delete email 3


    One point... The backspace key does not work in TELNET, so make sure you spell all commands properly the first time
