    Good stuff Mega...
I read the Mineral Resources announcement this week, what I gathered from that announcement (if my interpretation is not correct let me know) was the ability to process fines, which would otherwise be treated as waste, thereby increasing their processing percentage, hence profitability.
Your article goes further to say that processing for spodumene alone will not be efficient in the future / and that processing to a sulphate, .... salt... for example will be done on mine sites. That also supports the likely consolidation of miners due to the capital required, or 3rd party processing plants such as the one Mineral Resources has mentioned where they will make the technology available, or perhaps provide mining services if distance is not great (this is my interpretation).

extracts from the Min Res announcement:
Lithium Australia signs joint development agreement with leading ASX-listed
mining company Mineral Resources (ASX:MIN) (“MinRes”) related to disruptive
    lithium extraction technology LieNA®

    LieNA®
technology, which has the potential to enhance lithium extraction yields by up to
50%3 over current market performance, and will manage the pilot plant’s production
    process
