As both processes mentioned leave behind more of the waste where it is mined, it would particularly suit a miner that was exporting into the US, Sayona’s most likely market.
The US being as close as it is, could send what waste they get, back to Canada where it came from.
For exporters to countries like China and Korea, this would not be practicable due to cost and carbon emissions from shipping.
My mind boggles at how much waste material must be going into China now let alone what it will be like in 20 years time.
As an example, without mid-stream processing reducing waste, PLS will soon be sending 1,000,000 tonnes of SC to China per year, ~950,000 tonne will be waste.
That is just one company’s waste, in twenty years time another twenty companies could be doing the same.
