what we need to consider is depth, where the basin is and its nature.

it does suggest however that the centre of australia does likely contain oil shows still and that those oil shows (not just in the cooper) basin may well include sizeable traps. oil does not just migrate and disappear.
anyway......lets see what a geophys makes of this.
