Energy and Minerals Australia Announces Appointment of Mike Young as Non-executive Chairman

    18 Apr 2013

Energy and Minerals Australia Limited (“EMA”; ASX:EMA) developer of Western Australia’s largest uranium deposit owned by an Australian company, is pleased to advise that Mr Mike Young has been appointed as non-executive Chairman of the Company, effective 17 April 2013.

Mr Young is a founding director of BC Iron Limited (“BCI”) and played an integral role in bringing the Company to its current position as a significant iron ore producer. Mr Young, successfully steered BCI through the first stage exploration, definition of resources, managed the feasibility study, negotiated development agreements with Fortescue Metals Group Limited and ultimately achieved profitable production of iron ore. Mr Young will step down as the managing director of BC Iron on 10 May 2013, but will remain on the board as a non-executive director.

Mr Young is a geologist and a graduate of Queens University, Canada with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Geological Sciences. His experience includes base metals, iron ore, uranium and gold. Mr Young's experience has a strong focus on mine-camp exploration, resource definition, and mine development. Mr Young was a founding director of uranium developer Bannerman Resources Limited and he has been the non-executive Chairman of Cassini Resource Limited since August 2011.

Having been born and educated in Canada, Mr Young has a strong affinity with uranium exploration and development. During his university years, he worked at Eldorado Nuclear’s (now Cameco) Beaverlodge Uranium mine in Northern Saskatchewan. After graduating, he spent two winters in Northern Saskatchewan with Lamontange Geophysics carrying out UTEM surveys. He was on the field crew that discovered the McArthur River uranium deposit in the late 1980s.

EMA’s CEO Mr Julian Tapp said:

“I have known Mike and worked extremely well with him ever since his early days at BC Iron, even before it listed. He has shown tremendous drive, commitment and persistence to get BC Iron to where it is today and I am absolutely thrilled to have someone of his calibre on our Board.

“Mike Young has had what is actually quite a rare experience, namely - successfully taking a project from the speculative exploration phase right through financing, construction and on to full production. It is something he did quickly, efficiently and effectively. That is a perfect fit into what we intend to be doing with Mulga Rocks”.

EMA names ex-FMG man as CEO

    The West Australian

    March 13, 2013, 11:47 am

Uranium explorer Energy and Minerals Australia has named former Fortescue Metals Group executive Julian Tapp as its new chief executive and executive director.

EMA said the former head of government relations at FMG would bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in helping to develop the company's Mulga Rock project, 240km north east of Kalgoorlie.

Mr Tapp said he was excited about the opportunity to make a contribution to the development of what was expected to be a new, large-scale, low-cost uranium operation.

"Nuclear power simply has to be part of the global energy mix if we are going to have economic growth and a reduction in the level of carbon emissions," he said.

Mr Tapp will receive an annual salary of $350,000, inclusive of superannuation plus long term incentives.

EMA has an inferred resource of 62.2 million pounds of uranium at Mulga Rock, ranking it as the third biggest uranium resource in WA.

The company has already completed a scoping study with a more detailed feasibility study is planned to be conducted in 2013.
Shares in the company were unchanged at five cents at 11.45am.
