I'm travelling so dont have the time to look into this properly, but there is speculation that Fonterra have cut farm gate price from 55c to 14c.
As per the 1AG announcement today it would seem Alterra are working towards "paddock to plate traceability" which would I believe will bypass farmgate prices (happy to be corrected) atleast for export products.
What this implication will look like for local WA sales is another consideration altogether. The positive to take is low cost and highly efficient ventures are much more likely to compete in this market, and Alterra as a first mover of System-5 in WA would seem to be the best bet in this space. I would focus on exports at $8-10 per litre retail.
