Its also about vegans quite a bit. There was a case in the USA where a guy bought a 'vegan' burger from a fast food outlet and discovered it was cooked together with beef burgers / utensils used were the same. This caused him to sue the outlet for false advertising / misrepresentation etc - the contamination invalidated the description 'vegan' burger to be used. The customer was not allergic to anything but ethically concerned and took legal action on this. Its serious stuff !!

I appreciate your niece's difficulty with avoiding dairy as many products which would not be expected to contain dairy or nuts often have in small print under the list of ingredients: "may contain traces of dairy, nuts" etc.. stuff like that .. not acceptable (of course almond milk would contain nuts!! but should be no dairy at all, not a trace of it)
