i'm very sure that cryptochromes embedded in migratory birds retinas are playing a major role in alot of these mass bird deaths, due to the altering of the magnetic field and their inability therefore to process geomagnetic information. and you have the added problem of them being thrown into confussion by the magnettite in their beaks. thus south becoming north and visa vera.
