Han is correct, fish kills are commonly (and naturally) caused by algal blooms. It is especially common when pelagic fish enter shallow coastal waters.
Shame the 'alarmist' spin was tagged onto an otherwise sensible post though. Pollutants regularly cause fish kills on the US coast too.
