The counterview to share buybacks is the company has run out of ideas to use that money to grow the business. Every now and again there has been press speculation buybacks have been used by management of some companies to bolster share prices a dividend/share targets to meet performance targets and, hence, triggers for bonuses. No suggestion of that here. The same money given to shareholders as a dividend is my preferred use of excess funds.
