maybe but at lot of those mothballed plants need US$10 / lb for nickel production to be anywere near viable.
This is what the latest plant in Ambatovy (Madagascar) is facing. A mini crisis, do we continue to build or slow everything down to a crawl and delay employment and comissioning until the nickel price increases again. Something that Goro in New Caledonia which is currently comissioning (albiet very slowly) is also facing.
Minara took 10 years to get laterite processing right to a place were they can make money. BHP's Ravo has failed even with a huge cash backing, I fear the other two will struggle as well. Ambatovy will probably move forward only because Sherrit who's technology is used at Moa Bay and Minara is about the only sure bet. Ambatovy is Sherrits pet project. They have pubicly stated they need US$10 / lb to make it viable.
