It would also enable the govt to push people toward the less harmful drugs(weed, mdma, lsd etc). Make drugs like heroin and ice prescription only and pharmacy only for the rest and the black market goes out of business overnight, billions saved in policing, billions gained in tax revenue and much less harm caused to both the users and the wider community. It's a no brainer imo, drugs are so widely available and users are almost never prosecuted anyway, it's effectively legal to use already, why not regulate it and have the nation profit from it?
