Ikwezi Mining will begin operation at its Kliprand site, in Dannhauser, next month.
Corporate investment officer, Raymond Zulu, said the company has already started to develop the site, and provisions are being made to appease members of the community who will affected by mining activity.
Dannhauser’s deputy mayor, Vincent Ndaba, said he is looking forward to the boost this project will create in the local economy.
“Since the closure of other mines in the area, Dannhauser has become a ghost town. In our town, we have a high rate of unemployment and this project creates an opportunity for us to alleviate poverty,” said Mr Ndaba.
He continued, “At the same time, we expect the mining company to follow the correct procedures from the onset. We don’t want the mines to divide our people. We want everybody to feel involved.”
The old Ngagane siding and the accompanying railway line are also being revived to support mining activity. Ikwezi Mining is awaiting licences to establish other sites in the Kromdraai area.
