Mineral Potential of Puntland


Range Resources commenced mineral exploration in Puntland in early 2006 under the direction of the Company’s Chief Consulting Geologist, Mr Geoff Blackburn. An office has been established in Boosaaso.


To date, surface sampling has produced two areas of silver-lead-zinc mineralisation, Qandal and Mgai Yahan. The Qandala project is located 100 kilometres east of Boosaaso. It was discovered by Italian geologists in 1939.


Four argentiferous lead occurrences have been identified by Range Resources geologists over a 30 km strike length of Jurassic limestones.


The overall geology of these occurrences is similar to the Jabali silver-lead-zinc deposit in Yemen.


The Arorgob Prospect, the eastern most of the Qandala prospects, has produced assay results of up to 28.7% lead on surface samples. The Timosso Prospect has produced assay results of up to 37.0% lead on surface samples.


These prospects host the potential for supergene silver at the water table.


The Magia Yahan tin deposit was discovered by Italian geologists in the 1930s and mined by a Bulgarian state mining company in the 1970s. A soil sampling program conducted by Range Resources has found a significant lead-zinc soil anomaly. This will be followed up in 2007.
