Sydney, Mar 05, 2008 (RWE via COMTEX) -- WAMTF | news | PowerRating | PR Charts -- (RWE Australian Business News) West Australian Metals Ltd (ASX:WME) today announced initial results from an RC drill program commenced in the December quarter over the Marenica Uranium Project in Namibia had extended uranium mineralisation to the south and east with a thickening within the Central Channel.
The program's principal objective is to expand the area of mineralisation outside the current resource area, which contains 15m pounds U3O8.
Drilling is focused on initially testing a 20 sq km area of a buried palaeo-drainage system immediately south and east of the resource area on a broad 600m-by-200m grid pattern - the Priority Area.
The aim is to complete this phase of drilling by the end of the March quarter, following which infill drilling will be undertaken during the June quarter over areas identified as having resource potential.
Drilling of this Priority Area is being accelerated.
Results from downhole gamma probing of the first line of 26 vertical holes totalling 1285m (MAR 169 to 194) drilled in this program to test the Priority Area indicates the presence of a significant envelope of uranium mineralisation (greater than 100 ppm eU3O8) extending east and southeast of the Resource Area within 40m of surface.
There is an apparent thickening of mineralisation over sections of the palaeo-drainage system drilled, with five holes reporting accumulated thicknesses between 10m and 15.7m with grades in excess of 100ppm eU3O8 - principally within the Central Channel.
This apparent thickening of mineralisation is considered significant in the context of the company's primary goal of delineating larger resource which could be amenable to heap leaching - such as Areva's Trekkopje Project which adjoins Marenica to the south.
Equivalent uranium intervals from gamma probing of these initial holes include:
MAR183 - 3.2m averaging 236ppm eU3O8 (12.1m to 15.3m),
2.5m averaging 298ppm eU3O8 (25.6m to 28.1m) and
7.3m averaging 122ppm eU3O8 (28.9m to 36.2m).
MAR177 - 1.3m averaging 333ppm eU3O8 (32.45m to 33.75m),
4.7m averaging 121ppm eU3O8 (24.15m to 28.85m) and
2.5m averaging 113ppm eU3O8 (5.05m to 7.55m).
MAR 180 - 90cm averaging 468ppm eU3O8 (20.39m to 21.29m).
MAR 170 - 11.3m averaging 126ppm eU3O8 (16.18m to 27.48m).
WA Metals expects long delays in receiving results due to the huge work load being carried by all laboratory facilities in South Africa and Australia.
