UP to nine miners have been injured in an underground explosion at a mine near the central Victorian city of Bendigo, emergency services say.
Police say at least three miners have suffered blast fume inhalation in the explosion at a mine at Fosterville, about 20km from Bendigo, just before 5pm (AEST) today.
Rural Ambulance Service spokesman John Mullen said a rescue mission was underway.
"It appears that there's about nine people involved,'' he told Southern Cross Broadcasting.
"We are in the process of bringing those people to the surface, working with the other emergency crews.
"Two people have already been brought to the surface.
"They have been given oxygen and we are now in the process of bringing the others up.''
