Don't want to be too pedantic about this however......
a mineral is a single solid formed from rock which does not burn at "room temperature".
Coal is formed from organic substances.
I don't know why it is classified as sedimentary rock when it is not a rock. Maybe to lump it in together with minerals to make mining exploration licences easier to get?
