Hi Tangey - they don't have to hold the underlying shares. In effect, it's a bet.
Not sure what the rules are in Aus, but in the UK there is no Capital Gains Tax on profits from derivatives. On the flip side, you can't use losses on derivatives to offset gains that are subject to CGT.
