Those LNG projects are in serious jeopardy of being lost to Australia.
The poor industrial relations environment, high A$, enormous costs of primary inputs and uncertain regulatory environment is making all the developers of the north west LNG projects nervous. Anything which isnt completely costed and provisioned already (ie where they have spent too much money to back out) is going to get canned or delayed.
After why build in Australia when Qatar offers lower taxes, cheaper labour and a predictable government?
In Sydney this week I sat in an economic forum with the great and good and this specific topic came up. Olympic Dam expansion is just the beginning.
