I am a mechanical engineer PhD, not civil, not mining; I would say a mining engineer course at level 101 (1st year) would understand the principals of water tables & flow.
I am tonight going to post a series of posts to show the current situation of the tailings dam failure and remedial action by the MD is a total failure of engineering ethics by a senior mining engineer.
Post 1;
1. Single point discharge not recommended for small TD's when slurry / water is to be kept away from the TD embankment.
The solution for current situation change slurry exit to multi point exit from the processing plant. Use spigotted outlets as per below.
