I find question 1. particularly interesting.
At the very least it is pleasing to see more than one interested party, presumably for security of product as much as certainty of cost.

On the topic of PR, I think they tend to have a very conservative and maybe slightly old fashioned style. It can be a tricky path to walk and in some ways they might be "damned if they do and damned if they don't" communicate.
But a little courtesy is never going to do any harm.
