Reviving this wonderful thread in the hopes we can discuss potential logistics around power/getting the copper south. Now that the deposit is starting to look better and better I think it's worth speculating a little on the logistics of what issues may arise and how they can be solved.
My concern (and correct me if I'm wrong) is that we would have to use diesel which is seen unfavorably by financiers (especially governments) who are increasingly trying to make mines seem to be "carbon neutral" and are providing generous grants to mines which use renewable sources of energy.
I don't have any personal issue with using diesel generators nor do I think the use of them would materially put development at a practical disadvantage when it comes to moving to production, but it does add an element of social disadvantage. One option I considered is due to the constant daylight for half the year, solar panels could potentially be used to reduce emissions and thus provide potential financiers with a semblance of AW1 making all practical attempts to produce "clean copper".
I will fully admit though I don't honestly know how practical the use of solar panels actually would be and if it's worth the cost of installation. That being said if the discovery does pan out to be a massive deposit with very long mine life, governments (USA and Canada) might look favorably upon helping out with the development of more permanent infrastructure up there since there's a geopolitical aspect to this as well. If anyone's familiar with Russia's ambitions in the arctic they'll understand what I mean by this.
Anyway fantastic thread and I really appreciate your previous contributions guys![]()
