Mines in the Cloncurry area not having access to the power grid is the reason why investment in the region has been stifled say the Cloncurry Shire mayor.
He goes on to state that the magnitude of the problem is why mining companies are not investing in the North West mineral province.
"We have mines that can't afford to connect to the power grid and, if they could, the cost of power would be too high".
The mayor further stated that the only other option was to use diesel power on site.
Fixed costs in power, water and transport were driving industry to a standstill.
He further stated that there would be a7.5 % increase in costs to power from July even if the carbon tax was abolished.
Wayne McCrae looked at various form of generating power for Rocklands and opted for the two diesel generating power plants.
CuDeco has its own water supply so that should be no problem.
One would think that Wayne McCrae has negotiated a reasonable bulk diesel contract.
