Perhaps Sumitomo where the 'preferred' company from the Govt...who knows. But the most important thing is that the constitution is very clear on land rights. Its a very important political and social issue. Even more so than indigenous land rights in Australia! And the High Court, after a case that ran for many years, gave rights in perpetuity to the people Axiom have their lease with.
Of course, the only reason Sumitomo are upset is this is a major resource. If this was an insignificant deposit noone would care or comment. And the amazing thing is, its a proven resource. This is not prospecting. They KNOW its there, courtesy of about $30m in prospecting (in current $ terms) already done.
