The figures for EPL?s and Mining Claims include renewals. Katali said three applications for mining licenses have been lodged and are still awaiting his approval.

?These are in respect of the Oshikoto Gold Project near Otavi, the Etango Uranium Project near Arandis and the Husab Uranium Project near R?ssing.? He said at the planned production rate, Husab will be producing nearly twice as much as R?ssing and the mine is expected to produce for more than 25 years. ?Other uranium projects at an advanced exploration stage are Omahola near Swakopmund and Marenica near Spitzkoppe.

Applications for the two Mining Licenses have not yet been lodged.? Katali said an application for a new Mining License for marine phosphates, the first of its kind, has been lodged in the last financial year and it will be finalised in a month or so. Phosphates are mainly used as agricultural fertiliser and this could be good news for Namibia?s agricultural sector as the mining company, Marine Phosphates Namibia (Pty) Ltd, might be in a position to supply the local markets in future.
