This is more by way of reassurance to LouL and davo and a few others who have hung in there -article re emerging gold producers in this months Mining Monthly - by Paul Dicker - mentions Apex, Avoca, Focus, Integra Kal Boulder and Greater Bendigo . He quotes Strachan - author of StockAnalysis. Point of the article is the need to keep costs controlled to ensure an adequate margin. He likes Avoca best then Apex.
Quoting directly from the Mining Monthly April 2008 article entitled Costs can Kill
'Apex minerals, yet another emerging WA gold company, recently announced it had raised more than $60 million to develop its Wiluna mine. Production is due to begin late this year.
It is significant that Apex was able to complete its $62 million capital raising despite the bloodletting on global stock exchanges and liquidity problems which have spooked many investors. Strachan said the Apex raising highlighted the benefit of having good management and good reserves.
''They've actually got the plants, they've got good management with a track record and they've got reserves in the ground at Wiluna and elsewhere'' he said.
"They just need money to refurbish the plants, for working capital and first-fill costs and away they go.
They're in a very strong position. Mark Ashley (managing director) basically bought all those assets and put them together.
"He decided to spend money on exploration before even thinking about cranking up the mills again to give themselves a five-or six year buffer.
"They've got spectacular drill results.. it all looks very promising"
Strachan said companies with higher grade deposits were better placed to absorb cost increases.'

( personally think the last bit is self -evident) He failed to mention they've also got the bacteria in two lots stored in Perth ready to go back to the plant when needed. (Mentioned in Jardine's presentation yesterday.
