The country has been a significant oil producer in Africa since it started production in 1977 and has produced of 40,000 barrels/day since 1980, peaking at about 190,000 barrels/day in the early 80's. Companies like ExxonMobile, Royal Dutch Shell and Total SA have been doing business there for years.
Given the peace the country has enjoyed relative to some of its neighbours, some would consider him the father of their nation.
Paul Biya would understand the significance to his country of developing its mineral wealth and IMO will be taking steps to insure qualified parties form part of that development.
This is not all about whether or not equity investors back in Australia make 50%,100% or 1000% on their investment.
