I've just done what our Treasurer obviously can't. I went to BHPs website, downloaded their last annual report and scrolled down to the financial statement.
Here is the bottom line: pg 177.
In 2009 they made $11.617 billion in profit before tax, they paid $5.279 billion in tax. That's 45% taxation.
In 2008 they made $23.49 billion in profit thanks to the commodity boom, they paid $7.521 billion in tax. That's 32% taxation.
How can these statements so easily refuted even make the paper without being ridiculed? Are Rudd and Sawn really this stupid?
