Forged, what you say is true. We are currently the engine driving the economy. With that said i really don't agree with Barnett's aggressive push for more GST revenues. We should be happy for it to help other states. WA wasn't always the engine and when this boom fizzles we could be a backwater once more. The East used to subsidise us with their revenues when we were the backwater, it's short sighted for us not to reciprocate.

And yes, the mining boom here is where it's at. The problem is that none of the companies actually want to train anyone from scratch, yet they all complain about not having enough labour.
