    There is so much myth about wages in mining. I'm at a mid-size gold mine in WA so the wages are different(lower) to Iron Ore and Gas. But i know the underground contractor here pays their truck drivers about 70,000 a year for a 2/1 roster. When you work it out it is actually crap money but the reality is it is a job anyone can do with no experience and it gives the young guys a start. Many fly home east for their week off. Many don't last long.

    A process technician will get about 90,000 doing an 8/6 roster. The plant Metallurgist would get about 110,000. A shift supervisor would get about 120,000.

    The roster is key for most people. 8/6 allows you to have a great lifestyle. From what i understand much of the really big money made up north is on terrible rosters which must kill alot of relationships. But if you have a plan you could save alot and really get ahead.

    As an aside, if I had a house in the Pilbara I'd be selling it now.
