I've lived in this area most of my 60+ year life. I have never witnessed voter reaction quite like this in Indi.
You appear unaware as to the significance of the following:
. The massive campaign support that has flowed to the Independent; local identity and farmer Cathy McGowan - her army of helpers is now reported at some 500 local people and growing by the day.
. Ken Jasper has actively promoted McGowan; as a very long serving state National Partly MLA he is widely respected and highly influential. He has stated that he did not vote for Sophie Mirabella in the past.
. The other major players in this seat; Labor and The Greens are preferencing McGowan and the signs are that she will finish ahead of Labor on primary votes.
. Mirabella's saturation advertising is irritating people; it's so far over the top that people are reacting to it.
. The online opinion poll conducted by our major local daily paper, the Border Mail, demonstrated very high levels of dissatisfaction with Mirabella's performance and massive support for Cathy McGowan.
. The vandalism directed at McGowan's campaign posters over the weekend prompted frontpage coverage that reflected very poorly on those responsible.
In the event that McGowan gets the nod I'll further update you as soon as I've recovered from all that champagne I'll drink.
