Be aware also that as pits go deeper the stripping ratio drops, so although the cost for a bcm to mine is higher the total volume required to mine per tonne of ore drops dramatically, hence the total mining cost per tonne of ore (and unit of metal) drops (from a Bridgestone perspective tyre wear increases also). The other thing that can occur is that the orebody consistency and quality improves as opposed to on the fringes of the upper levels. Having said all that a poorly managed gold mine will have high costs regardless, which is why bringing people like Luke on board should have a positive impact on that side of things.
