Both crypto and gold miners have been funded on margin and are correlated to the sharemarket.
Gold is sold to meet margin calls.
The only safe investments during a crash are cash and treasury bonds, and the safety of cash is subject to bank bail-ins.
So that just leaves treasuries, and who wants to buy treasuries that pay 2% when inflation is 7%?
The answer is that losing 5% is better than losing more, and the value of treasuries increase if yields drop.
