Gold and crypto (or bitcoin at least) are both considered to be assets that hold value in inflationary times, due to their limited supply which cannot be increased at will by central banks.
Cash is usually considered a safe haven asset that people go to in times of financial crisis, but large amounts need to be stored in banks, which have counter party risk.
So bank stability becomes an issue, especially in times of crisis. In the 1930s, even people who were not invested in the stockmarket still were bankrupted when their banks failed.
